Extra, Extra: Dec. 6, 2013

• More on the DOE’s reversal of its commitment to add 1,000 elementary school seats in Lower Manhattan: from the Broadsheet (“How Far Uptown Is Still Downtown? Education Advocates Assail DOE Position That Soho Is In Lower Manhattan“) and the Tribeca Trib (“DOE: No Relief Next September from School Crowding Pressures“).

• Also from the Broadsheet: Parents of children entering Kindergarten in 2014 should take note of a new application process, which begins in January (scroll down to the bottom of the page for the article).

• Thank you to everyone who supported our bake sale to support victims of Taiphoon Haiyan in the Philippines! We raised a total of $315, and sent $165 to Doctors Without Borders and $150 to the Red Cross.

• A PS 150 alumnus who is now at the Professional Performing Arts High School in Midtown West tells us that a 3rd grade student at PS 212, the elementary school that shares their building, is one of three finalists in a nationwide cooking competition. If she wins, the building will receive $30,000 for a makeover of their cafeteria. Vote for Arden’s Roof Top Rice by Dec. 8 and support these local schools.
