In the Papers: PS 150 and its Nut-Free Policy

We all know PS 150 is a nut-free school, but two recent articles in the local papers add some background to this policy. “7 Ways to Help Manage Your Child’s Food Allergy at School” (DNAinfo, Nov. 10, 2014) describes how a student’s allergic reaction three years ago led to the ban of nuts and nut butters, while “Schools stockpile antidotes in fight against allergic reactions” (New York Post, Nov. 15, 2014) discusses the rise in children with allergies – and features a quote from Principal Jenny Bonnet:

“I think it’s reasonable if you have a student who has a life-threatening allergy,”

Principal Bonnet said, referring to the no-nuts policy and how such a policy is easier for a small school like ours to implement.
